Novice Group (formerly our Level 1/1.5)
- You must:
- Have basic familiarity with motorcycle operation.
- Be comfortable riding at or above highway speeds.
- Adhere to all rules pertinent to the group.
This is our new-to-the-track level. Most riders in this level come from street riding but are not necessarily new to motorcycling. In this level we introduce riders to the track in a controlled environment. Riders will be shown the proper line, learn about vision on a track, body position, and bike control. Riders will need to become proficient in these skills to be upgraded to the next level. There are modules that students are required to complete before they are upgraded to the Intermediate Group. On average we see students progress through these modules in 3 to 4 events. There are always exceptions as some are upgraded earlier and some later.
If you have NO prior MOTORCYCLE track experience on a road-race style track you MUST register in this group, NO EXCEPTIONS.
If you have ridden with other trackday providers and generally sign up for Intermediate or Advanced, we want you to sign up for the same level you normally ride. You may be asked to provide verification that the level you are signing up for is appropriate.
At the 1.3 mile track at MSR Cresson, we divide the First Timer Novice students and Returning Novice students into different groups for tracktime. At all other tracks, First Timer and Returning Novice riders are on the track at the same time.
